Ready to ride
All the gear…

Cycling can be an expensive sport, but with a few good investments, you’ll get the most for your money and riding experience.

• Whether you want the full straps or plain shorts, the preference is personal. But a good quality pair can last you years. It’ll protect your bum from bumps on the road, allowing you to ride longer comfortably.

Top tip: Always use chamois cream when you ride. This will protect you from saddle chafe and sores. Some apparel brands make chamois cream specifically for their bibs and shorts.

• Full fingers for winter and short for summer, gloves are inexpensive and help you with your grip, control and protect your hands from the sun and crashes.

Top tip: Get padded gloves if you’re riding trails and bumpy roads. It’ll give you the extra protection you need.

• Make sure you’ve got cycling specific sunnies to protect your eyes. This isn’t only important for the sun’s harmful UV rays, but debris from the road or trail could permanently damage your vision. Make sure you ask our experts about the right lenses for your riding type.

Top tip: Get sunnies that easily clip into your helmet so that if you have to take them off you have a safe storage place for them.

There is a misconception that cycling might not burn as many calories as a sport like running. But when the intensity and duration is right, you could burn more calories on your bike than on your feet!
