24 Days of Inspiration
Calling all Kings and Queens

The mountain stages of the Tour de France are always great to watch, and with five summit finishes in this year’s tour – including the famous Alpe d’Huez – there’s guaranteed drama in store. All that climbing is bound to get you in the mood to tackle a few mountains (or hills) yourself, but how can you improve your climbing
performance?

How can I improve my climbing?

A steady cadence, good body position and clever pacing will make it easier for you to summit long climbs. But your bike also matters, especially your wheels. Reducing the rotational mass of your wheels reduces your energy requirements while increasing your watt output. Deeper, slightly wider carbon wheels are stiffer for better power transfer. They also absorb more road shock, making them more comfortable. Improve your climbing performance with the right wheels for you.

This year’s Tour includes over 45,000m of climbing, with the highest point being the Col du Galibier at 2,645m above sea level.

Polka-dot jersey

The King/Queen of the Mountains (KOM/QOM) jersey is white with red polka dots. KOM/QOM points are on offer at the top of every categorised climb, with points going to the first three riders over the line.

Here are the categories:

Cat 4 – The easy climbs (4km with 4% gradient)
Cat 3 – A little tougher - 4 – 6% gradient
