Have you ever broken a chain? If you have, you will know this can spoil a good ride and it usually happens at the most inconvenient times. But taking a few precautions and having the correct spares will help you get home every time.
- Carry a chain break and chain link (in case you do).
- Clean your chain after every ride.
- Degrease your chain with every wash.
- Replace or rotate your chain when it starts to wear. It will improve the longevity of your cassettes.
- Check your chain wear at every service.
- Apply chain lubricant before every ride.
If you want to learn how to fix a broken chain watch this video from GCN or pop into the store and we can show you how to so that you don’t get stranded.
Keeping your bike chain clean will prolong your chain life, it’ll also help preserve your entire drive train. Dirt and muck will wear your chain, reduce the flexibility of each link, increase the chance of breaking a link, and you’ll lose watts with every pedal stroke. A clean bike is a fast bike.
We recommend a Muc-Off chain degreaser and cleaner so that you can get the most out of your chain, and your ride.
A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Make sure to keep your chain clean and check it regularly to ensure it doesn’t leave you stranded. Send us a message if you would to arrange a chain assessment.
