If you ride a bike, chances are, you’ve had a flat tyre at some point. Could you fix it, or did it leave you stranded? With a few spares and precautions, you’ll drastically lower your chances of spoiling a ride with a flat tyre.
1. Pump your wheels before every ride.
2. Replace your tyres when they start to wear.
3. Top up your sealant regularly.
4. Carry the puncture repair spares you need.
5. Pay attention to where you’re riding.
If you want to learn how to replace a punctured tube, watch this video from GCN or pop into the store and we can show you how to so that you don’t get stranded whilst out riding.
Make sure to run your fingers along the inside of the tyre once you’ve got it off the rim to make sure there are no more thorns or glass before you insert a tube. If you can fix a puncture with a plug (without inserting a tube) carry some duct tape and wrap it around the entire rim/tyre/plug area to ensure it doesn’t come out. If you have a tear in your sidewall and no gator, a bank note will do the trick.
We recommend always riding with a Co2 canister, co2 canister adaptor, plug tool and plugs, tyre levers, a multitool with a chain break, spare chain link and if you have space, a hand pump.
