One of the best changes you can make, for the least amount of money, on your bike is your grips. Although they’re up to personal preference, getting it right will change your ride.
Thinner grips might be more uncomfortable on longer rides, but it’ll give you better control and weigh less than thicker alternatives (specifically better for smaller hands). Thicker grips will act as a shock absorber in rough terrain and provide extra cushioning – but they could reduce control and add weight. The right grip will even help you avoid hand and finger cramps.
So how do you know when it’s time to change your grips? If your hands are slipping at all, if there’s any visible damage or if you can see them thinning out, it’s time for a new pair.
