Carbs make you fat and should be avoided on and off the bike.
This is not true, you need carbs to
fuel your body through training. If you skip carbs your body stores and
protects carbs as fat which could cause you to gain weight.
When you cycle, your body uses energy. You body extracts energy quickest from carbohydrates and not fats. This is why we need to fuel with carbs to have energy when we ride. To optimise your cycling performance, you need to stay fueled and hydrated. When you under-fuel and dehydrate, your body “panics” and saves all fuel as fat. Remember, for lower-intensity exercise, you do not need to take in lots of carbs. You can see the rough guide below, but remember every person is different.
