Train smart with no more junk miles

Making time to ride can be challenging, but being specific about your training will help you prioritise your strength-building and fitness, without compromising on the enjoyment. Remember, there’s no such thing as junk miles if you’re riding with a goal or plan.

If you don’t have a coach, try to plan your week or even month ahead. Make sure to include at least one interval session and one longer ride, and if you have the opportunity, a group ride to keep your riding fun and social per week. Remember, variety is key. What’s important is to not beat yourself up if you miss a session, and most importantly, don’t try to catch up on missed sessions, especially if you’re feeling tired and fatigued. Recover helps you improve.

Here’s how else you can STAY MOTIVATED YEAR-ROUND:

1. Invest in an indoor trainer – perfect for limited time and bad weather.
2. Join a group ride at least once a month to meet new people and ride new routes.
3. Rope your buddies in and challenge them to an event.
4. Get a coach to keep your training structured and organised.
5. Sign up for a club, store or Strava challenge to keep you rolling.
