Nutrition of champions

Do you have a nutrition plan for your Cape Town Cycle Tour? Without the correct or enough fuel, you might run into trouble on race day. Make sure you’ve packed, planned, and prepared for your nutritional needs.

For every race, you need a nutrition plan. It’s important to know that your body usually only has enough carbohydrates stored for up to 90 minutes of exercise. Beyond that, you should be eating and drinking 60g of carbohydrates per hour. Water and electrolytes should also be absorbed from the beginning of your race, especially if you’re participating in warmer temperatures which are usually experienced in March in the Cape.

Remember not to try any new nutrition on race day. If your gut isn’t trained to absorb what you’re eating or drinking, you could get nauseous, tummy cramps, muscle cramps, or even worse, have to end your race short of the finish line.
