Plan, strategise and set goals to train smart

Finding the motivation and sustainability in your training to keep you fit all year round isn’t as easy as you’d think. Seasons change, work, family, and life all take up time, and if you’re not diligent, your training will slip.

Set your GOALS

Set aside 15 minutes and to set your riding goal for the year. Do you want to complete your first stage race, complete your first double-century event, or maybe you want to lose weight and prioritise your health and wellbeing? Maybe your goal is as simple as riding more often but remember to make your goals SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time Bound).

For example, in 2024 I want to ride my first Double Century in November under 8 hours.

Plan your YEAR

To keep you accountable for your riding goals, identify events that are within your reach to sign up for. Perhaps it’s a bike packing trip, a group ride, or even an event or race. Identify at least 2 you want to complete and jot them down.

Strategise for SUCCESS

Being smart about your riding year ahead will help you achieve your goals and beat your best. If you feel like you need more accountability, sign up to get a coach, rope in a friend that you know will train with you, or enter a partner event. That way you’ll keep your motivation up and support all year-round.
