Punctures must be one of the most annoying things that could happen on a ride. Not only does it reduce time on your bike, but it also increases the chance of you damaging your rims and wheels. Are you doing everything you can to protect your bike and avoid punctures?

With a few simple tools and tricks, you’ll be sure to get home after every ride. Depending on if it’s a MTB puncture or a road puncture, the tools needed are slightly different. You can see the details below:

How to avoid a puncture

• Go tubeless if you haven’t already – especially on your MTB
• Replace and top up sealant at least every 3 to 4 months
• Check tyres for any holes, damaged beading and tread
• Check tyre pressure before every ride
• Have your rim tape checked (ensure it’s covering all the spoke holes)
• Ensure your valve hasn’t got slime in it that’ll block the airway
• Opt for wider tyres if your riding style includes technical terrain
