Beyond putting your bike together, you’ll need to make sure that everything is straight and correctly tightened. Here are some pointers to help you get ride-ready:
- Check your saddle height (mark your height with insulation tape on your seat-post)
- Check your handlebar is straight before you tighten your bolts (and don’t close one eye to check this)
- Check your headset and handlebars are tightened correctly
- Check your brakes are working
- Check your wheel thru-axels or quick releases are tight enough
Don’t fly with CO2 canisters in your bike or hand luggage. It’s not allowed with most airlines, and they’ll most likely get confiscated. You also run the risk of them popping in the air.
Remember to deflate your wheels before you travel. Ask the experts at the store to show you how much to deflate your wheels so that your sludge doesn’t leak out if you have tubeless wheels. Pack a small pump for when you arrive. Remember to check your shock pressure too.
