Understanding what suspension is and knowing how it works is just one piece of the puzzle. You need to understand how to fine-tune your suspension to give you the best possible riding experience.
1. Travel – refers to the amount of distance the suspension can move before it’s completely compressed.
2. Lockout – allows you to adjust your travel from open, to medium, to closed with a lever or a button depending on the terrain you’re on.
3. Air pressure – can be adjusted by attaching a shock pump to your Schrader valve on your suspension to fine-tune the firmness of the suspension.
4. Compression damping – consists of a damper rod and oil bath that controls the speed of the compression and rebound, too fast and you’ll be bouncing around on your saddle.
5. Rebound damping – controls how quickly your shock absorbs impact by the speed the suspension re-extends after a compression.
It’s a lot to take in but don’t worry we are here to help you.
The right grips can be considered a form of suspension. They’ll help absorb extra shock and take strain off your hands and fingers as you grip the handlebars.
