Decoding tyres
The right kind of gravel grind

Do you have the right tyre for your next trip and gravel adventure? Finding the balance on the bumpy gravel roads is tough. You’ll need to get your grip and rolling power just right, here’s how.

Here are the steps to finding the right tyre for your next gravel adventure:

1. Determine your wheel size, often 700c or 650b

2. Pick your width (If you have 700c, pick between: 32mm, 40mm, 45mm or even 50mm) if your frame allows the clearance

3. 650b wheels are usually wider for added volume and comfort, which can be between 40mm and 60mm

If you’ve got 650b wheels, you’ll have wider and deeper tyres – which will have a similar rolling resistance to a narrower tyre on a 700c wheel. Check with us in store which wheel and tyre size your gravel bike can take.

What’s also interesting is that for cyclocross (a similar type of bike to gravel bikes), the UCI regulations don’t allow for wider than 33mm tyres for racing!
