When you pick an event, the training that you do to prepare takes months of dedication. No matter your goal, knowing when to taper and scale down the training can make or break your race.
Proper training requires proper rest. You need to rest properly for your muscles to recover from intense training. If you keep training, you can break down muscle tissue and cause serious damage. Listen to your coach and rest on your rest days.
A gentle ride the day before a race with some short “burst” intervals is perfect to get your legs going. Try not to exceed 2 hours and don’t do more than 6 x 30 seconds of intense intervals. Keep the pace conversational.
