Decoding tyres
What’s your type of tread?

Depending on the bike you ride and where you want to ride, there’s a specific tyre for you. But with such a wide variety available, how do you know which tyre is the right one for you?

There are three characteristics that define tyres that’ll help you decide:

- Tyre type (road, gravel, hybrid, MTB etc.)

- Tyre diameter (the size of the wheel; 26”, 27.5” or 29” for example)

- Tyre width (road tyres being the least wide and fat bike tyres the widest)

Did you know that tyres have directional tread? This means that they must be installed in the right direction to optimize efficiency and reduce rolling resistance. We’ll install them for you.

Once you’ve established your tyre type and tyre diameter (wheel size), you can decide on the tyre width. The wider the tyre, the greater your surface area to the ground, giving you more grip. If you want a fast-rolling tyre, a narrower tyre with less resistance (knobblies) would be better. Still confused or need a recommendation? Don’t sweat it, we can help.
