Pedals are more than just a platform to rest your foot on. Strap-in, step-on or clip-in, pedals are responsible for the power transfer from your legs to your drivetrain. Not only do they impact your performance, but they also affect your safety, stability and comfort.
So how do you know which pedals are right for you and your riding style? Before you can choose, you need to know the difference between cleated pedals and flat platform pedals.
Cleated pedals require you to have
compatible shoes that you must manually clip into the pedals. These are
usually for more advanced riders (not total beginners) and differ
according to riding discipline.
Platform or flat pedals don’t require you to have compatible shoes and don’t physically clip into the pedals (usually for beginners (certain pedals), commuters, enduro or downhill riders. But you can get shoes that are more compatible to certain flats / platforms.
No matter your style of riding, there's a pedal for every type of rider. Not only are there many different types, but there are also different performance benefits. We’ll help you find the right type of pedals for you.
